Little Bisate
Bisate lies in the natural amphitheatre of an extinct volcanic cone. The word bisate in Kinyarwanda describes how the cone has eroded away so as to be divided. Our brief was to build the most exclusive, luxurious and sustainable high-end lodges in the greater Volcanoes National Park area. The goal is to emphasise the spectacular natural surroundings and captures the essence of the Virunga Volcanoes.
We believe in a more rooted architecture that celebrates its union with the earth, working with a flatter, terraced site and embracing the local materials, volcanic stone and indigenous landscape. This would result in an appropriate contextual response and sustainable architectural language for Little Bisate.
