Citadel

The Citadel is a seven storey north-facing building with 91 apartments. The project brief called for a naturally ventilated apartment block which capitalized on the views of the surrounding mountains to the north, on a site with a height restriction bordering a riverine corridor. All apartments have balconies, and these, together with the different textures on the wall planes help to articulate the façade successfully, giving it a sculptural quality and breaking the mass of this large building down to a scale in sympathy with the surrounding low-rise buildings.

The Citadel development gave our clients the opportunity to promote the urban densification so necessary to the sustainability of the city of Cape Town, whilst at the same time assisting in the regeneration of the Diep River, a riverine corridor of great importance to the Constantia valley as a whole.
